世界随一の先進国でさえも壊滅的な被害をこうむったハリケーンカトリーナ。「天災」よりもむしろ「人災」との議論が高まってますが、毎年台風被害に襲われている日本も他人事ではありません。にしても、援助って恩義を着せるために送るものなんですかねぇ？

いやー…凄すぎますね今回のアメリカを襲ったハリケーン。
Phew,,, That was a horrible hurricane that hit US this time.

死者数千人にも上るかも？と言うことで…
It reported that thousands of people were killed...

ちょっとスケールがでかすぎて狭い島国に育った私には状況を把握しかねますが。
For me, just have grown up in a small island country, it was too large to understand the condition.

しかしこんな酷いハリケーンでも名前はカトリーナと愛らしい。
However this bloody hurricane is called "Katrina", it's so pretty name.

以前日記でも話題にしたことがあるんですが、何故ハリケーンには女性の名前をつけるのでしょうか
Though before i'd reffered that in this journal, why do they put names to these hurricanes?

そしてこの名前は一体誰が決めているんでしょうか。
And who on earth put these names?

もしも日本の台風にも名前をつけることになったら、
If Japan would have to put names to Japanese typhoons,

そして私が台風に命名する職業に就いたら（どんな職業だよ）
And if i would have the job to name the typhoon, (what's the job such like that?)

夏〜秋の台風シーズンには頭を痛める事でしょう。
I shoud have to puzzle over it in summer and fall, typhoon season.

猛威を振るい大被害をもたらした台風の名前にうっかり「絵里」とかつけたら
If once I would name the typhoon which had gone a rampage and caused enormous damages for "Eri" or like that

もう全国の絵里さんから非難ゴーゴー。
All Eri in all around Japan must launch a withering attack on it.

しょうがないから現代には無さそうな名前をつけてみたりして。
Reluctantly, i would try some names which don't likely to exist in this modern age.

「昨晩小笠原諸島付近に上陸いたしました清少納言は次第にその勢力を強め…」
"'Seisho Nagon' that has arrived near Ogasawara Islands is strengthening its scale..."

あら、ちょっと風流でいいかも。
